CLASS OUTLINE:

 All casting and splinting supplies are provided. Each workshop is hands-on with each participant applying and removing each cast or splint. Included in the workshops are reference materials.

Ralph T. Perry, OT, conducts the workshops. Ralph is an Orthopaedic Technologist with 30 years of experience in his field. In the past, he has worked in a number of New York Hospitals including level one trauma centers, he is now employed as the senior technologist at one of Reno’s largest Orthopaedic clinics. Ralph is recognized as an authority in Orthopaedic casting techniques.

The following is an outline for the Splinting/Casting 4 day workshop package. Times may vary depending on class requirements:

7:30 Registration and Introduction

8:00 Short Arm Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of splint application. 50 minutes Hands-on splinting exercise.

9:20 Thumb Spica Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on casting exercise.

10:40 Boxer Fracture Cast ( Ulnar Gutter Cast) 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

12:00 Lunch

1:00 Long Arm Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

2:20 Short Leg Walking Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

3:40 Long Leg Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

5:00 Adjournment

DAY 2

8:00 Munster Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 60 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

9:30 Short Leg/Toe Plate 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 30 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

10:40 BREAK 11:00 Patella Tendon (PTB) 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 50 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

12:20 LUNCH

1:20 Total Contact Cast 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of cast application. 60 minutes Hands-on cast exercise.

8:00 Registration and Introduction Guest Speaker: Bill Souza – Kelly and Associates (Orthoglass Splinting) Bill will demonstrate the different types of fiberglass splinting techniques.

8:20 Volar Splint 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of splint application. 30 minutes Hands-on splinting exercise.

9:20 Thumb Spica Splint 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of splint application. 30 minutes Hands-on splinting exercise.

10:20 Ulnar Gutter Splint 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of splint application. 30 minutes Hands-on splinting exercise.

3:00 Leg Stirrup Splint 20 minutes Lecture on indications and nature of injuries. 10 minutes Demonstration of splint application. 30 minutes Hands-on splinting exercise.

Day 4

8:00 Registration and Introduction Guest Speaker: Michael Meyer – Meyer Medical – Generation II Braces. Mike will demonstrate the fitting procedure for the GII OA Brace and update you on the new line of Generation II Braces.

**There will be no time requirements on day 4. This day will be an open workshop for practice on all that was learned the past 3 day’s.
